Versant Power is an electric utility serving communities across northern and eastern Maine, delivering electricity to homes and businesses through its local transmission and distribution system. For Versant Power customers, choosing an electricity supplier is separate from the utility that delivers power.

Nordic Energy provides an alternative supplier option, allowing eligible customers to explore their electricity supply choices while continuing to receive delivery through the Versant Power system.

What Does Versant Power Handle?

As your utility company, Versant Power delivers electricity to your home and maintains the infrastructure that supports your service. This includes managing power lines, responding to outages, and handling service-related requests such as starting or stopping service. If an outage or other delivery issue occurs, the utility remains responsible for restoring service and maintaining the electric grid.

What to Know as a Versant Power Customer

Navigating your energy service is straightforward when you know who to contact for specific needs. Remember that all physical utility matters remain with your local utility.

Here are a few essential areas managed directly by the utility company:

  • Power outages: Your utility provides outage reporting, current outage information, and restoration updates. Estimated restoration times can change based on factors such as weather conditions, the problem's location, and the number of outages affecting the system.
  • Starting, stopping, or moving service: The utility handles electric service activation and related requests. Establishing existing service typically takes approximately eight days after the planning process is complete, although individual circumstances can affect the exact timing.
  • Generator safety: Customers preparing for potential outages receive generator safety guidance from the utility, which includes following all manufacturer instructions and standard safety precautions.

What Does Nordic Energy Provide?

Nordic Energy works alongside Versant Power by supplying your electricity while Versant Power continues to deliver it through its existing infrastructure. Choosing Nordic Energy does not change your utility service. Instead, you select Nordic Energy as your supplier while Versant Power maintains the local electric system and handles delivery-related services.
